LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The first round of the 124th Women's Western Amateur was suspended at 8:28 p.m. CT after overnight storms at Onwentsia Club caused a 5-hour, 30-minute delay on Tuesday morning.
Three players were tied for the lead at 5-under par when play was suspended due to darkness.
Farah O'Keefe (Texas), of Austin, Texas, and Annabelle Pancake (Clemson), of Zionsville, Indiana, each posted 67s on the par-72 layout. The two collegiate standouts are joined by Avery McCrery – a 17-year-old from Wilmington, Delaware – who sits at 5-under through 14 holes.
Pancake's Clemson teammate Isabella Rawl is one stroke behind at 4-under through 12 holes. The Lexington, South Carolina, native birdied her last three holes before play was suspended.
Six players are currently tied for third at 3-under with two having completed their rounds. Riana Mission (San Francisco), of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Chloe Holder (Clemson), of Anderson, South Carolina, each posted 69s in the first round.
Catie Craig, of Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia, the current leader of the Women's Elite Amateur Golf Series, is currently tied for 11th after posting a 2-under 70.
With all groups completing at least 11 holes, 31 players are currently under par.
The first round will resume at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday with the second round of stroke play immediately following. After the second round of stroke play, the 120-player field will be cut to the low 32 players for match play. Five rounds of 18-hole matches – culminating with the final match on Saturday – will decide the Women’s Western Amateur champion.
